Question to people outside the USA: Do you know about Thanksgiving?

I know I sound ignorant, but seriously, it would seem strange to me if I ever met someone who didn't know what Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, or 4th of July were. I don't know anything about the first pilgrims of England, or the Independence Day of France, should I expect someone to know about the United States?
