Why did the moon look like it had 2 tails? ?

As I took video and snap shots of the sliver shaped moon this morning with my Canon,I noticed that it's bottom sliver part looked/appeared to be doubled... I know it is just an optical illusion,but why does it happen and for what reasons? Thanks for the details... Jessi
