Does your mother expect you to act a certain way when guests are over?

My mother usually expected me to greet the guests, then to serve them drinks and other goodies and then disappear basically. That was fine because I hate being around guests, and greeting them but I put up with it. So it's just expected we act that way, not cuz she wanted to show us off but because that was the appropriate way to be around guests/
